A wet, soggy but enthusiastic group emerged from the bush after our first
practice search of the season. I discovered, much to my chagrin that even
expensive rain gear is not completely waterproof. The old-fashioned felt, lumberjack
shirt saved my day. Leather gloves turn into sponges when they are wet. Perhaps mink oil or dubbin
would help keep them dry, (next time we will try that).
The new radios worked out very well. We were able to stay in touch with
the base and each end of the search line. I had a chance to try out my
new GPS and was very pleased with the results. Hopefully the next practice
search will not be so wet. Many thanks to Senior Constable Chris Sheppard
and all the team members who came out on a very wet Saturday morning.
